Ratanda Police arrested 2 male suspects aged 26 and 33 years respectively for business robbery, possession of suspected stolen properties and attempted murder.
The community long chase with the assistance of Fidelity Guard Reaction Unit led to the apprehension of the suspects at Bree Street - Rensburg in Heidelberg.
Even though the suspects kept on firing shots, community kept on chasing them without fear or retreat.
The suspects were handed over to the police and upon searching the suspects, on one of the suspects, a calculator was found.
It is alleged that 3 suspects entered the tavern, pointed the 50-year-old tavern owner with Firearms demanding money and to be shown where the safe was placed. During the process, one of the suspects shot her on the abdomen.
It is alleged that one of the employees screamed for help to the community and suspects went out running on foot.
Customers and community gave chase until two of the suspects were apprehended and handed over to the police.
One of the suspects alleged to have disappeared in a Toyota Corolla local taxi that was passing by.
One firearm was recovered but the other two Firearms used were not found.
The Cluster Commander thanked the community of Ext. 23 Ratanda for fighting crime and chasing the suspects. She further appreciated the ongoing good partnership with private security companies and their mutual planning with SAPS on posting Reaction Unit on specific points. The Cluster Commander concluded by appreciating that the community never took law into their hands or mob justice but apprehend and handed over suspects to the Police.
Police are looking for the outstanding suspects who disappeared in Toyota Corolla local taxi. Appeal is made that if there is anyone with information about the whereabouts of these suspects, can contact SAPS Crime Stop 08600 10111 or sms Crime Line 32211.
The arrested suspect will appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court soon.
