Members of Operation Combat and their colleagues from the Stabilisation Unit were following a zero tolerance approach when performing crime prevention operations to curb gang violence and drug offences in the Steenberg policing precinct.
On Thursday, 28 March 2018 at about 12:30 they caught a suspect in Shepherd Way, Lavender Hill with 10 small packets of dagga, one dagga cigarette, two rounds of R5 rifle ammunition and one 9mm round of ammunition. A 37-year-old suspect was arrested for illegal possession of ammunition and possession of dagga. The street value of dagga is estimated at R50.
At the same time and at the same address a 38-year-old suspect was arrested after being found in possession of four small sachets of dagga. The street value of this dagga is estimated at R40. An 18-year-old suspect was also arrested after being found in possession of four small sachets of dagga. The street value of the dagga is estimated at R40.
A 19-year-old suspect was arrested after being found in possession of three sachets of dagga with an estimated street value of R30, and an 18-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of four sachets of dagga. The street value of the dagga is estimated at R40 and a 44-year-old suspect was arrested after being found with four packets of dagga with an estimated street value of R30.
At about 18:50 on the same day a 35-year-old suspect was arrested at a house in Grindal Crescent, Lavender Hill, after being found in possession of a big transparent packet and 28 small transparent packets of TIK, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash. The street value of the drugs is estimated at R840. The suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs.
All the suspects were due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates' Court yesterday, Thursday 29 March 2018.
On the same day the members searched a house in Wessels Street in Retreat and confiscated dagga plants, boxes of loose dagga and coffee jars containing dagga. No arrests have been made.
