Hijacker dies in a hijacked vehicle: police seize two unlicensed Firearms
Gauteng: A quick response by an off-duty police officer led to the death of one of the two alleged hijackers while the other is under police guard at the hospital and two unlicensed Firearms
were seized at Beyers Naude and Akasia Road, Fairlands, last night after 19:00. The victim of a hijacking was not injured. Charges of attempted murder, armed robbery and possession of unlicensed Firearms
are being investigated.
The incident happened after the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser stopped at the pharmacy. He was then confronted by two suspects armed with handguns and had their faces covered with balaclava. He was pointed with Firearms
and robbed of his vehicle. The hijacking in progress was witnessed by an off duty police officer who was at the pharmacy. He then confronted the suspects by firing several shots.
The suspects could not managed to drive far as they crashed the hijacked vehicle into a tree. The driver died at the scene and the other was injured. The injured suspect was taken to the hospital under police guard. Police also seized two handguns at the scene.
